Joint conference “Armenians in Bilad Al-Sham”
In October 7-8, 2009 in the Arab Republic of Syria /in Aleppo University / there was going to be passed joint conference “Armenians in Bilad Al-Sham” organized by the Institute of Oriental Studies, NAS RA and IFPO /Damascus/. The participants are leading Arabists from different Universities of France, Aleppo University, Damascus University, the Institute of Oriental Studies, NAS RA, Yerevan State University, Matenadaran and the Institute of History, NAS RA, as well as researchers from Armenian community of Syria.
Here is the list of participants from Armenia:
1.Dr. Araks Pashayan, Leading researcher of the Department of Arab Countries, Institute of Oriental Studies, NAS RA. Her report is titled “Islam in Medieval Armenian Sources”.
2.Dr. Lilit Harutyunyan, Leading researcher of the Department of Arab Countries, Institute of Oriental Studies, NAS RA. Her report is titled “The foundation of Armenian Catholic Convent in Bzummar”.
3.Anush Tamrazyan, Researcher of the Department of Arab Countries, Institute of Oriental Studies, NAS RA. Her report is titled “The Way of Spiritual Self-Improvement in Armenian Mysticism and Arabic Sufizm”.
4. Dr. Hayk Kocharyan, Assistant of the Department of Arabic Studies, YSU. His report is titled “The Status of Non –Muslims in Early Ummah: Armenian Zimmis”.
5. PhD student of the Institute of Oriental Studies, researcher of Matenadaran. Her report is titled “Matenadaran as one of the Arabic Studies Centers in Armenia”.
6. Dr. Vahan Ter-Ghevondyan, Leading researcher of the Institute of History, NAS RA. His report is titled “The Alliance of the Kingdom of Cilice and the Ayyubid Sultanat of Aleppo in 1226”.
The working languages of the conference were English, Arabic and Franch.
