"TURKEY AND THE SOUTH CAUCASUS. NEW GEOPOLITICAL REALITIES IN THE 21ST CENTURY"
"TURKEY AND THE SOUTH CAUCASUS. NEW GEOPOLITICAL REALITIES IN THE 21ST CENTURY"
(18-21 November, 2021, Yerevan)
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

The Institute of Oriental Studies at the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia will hold an international conference on “Turkey and the South Caucasus. New geopolitical realities in the 21st century” 18-21 November, Yerevan, Armenia.
During the first two decades of the 21st century, serious regional changes took place in the South Caucasus region. The growth of Turkey's regional role is clearly visible. In particular, because of the 44-day Artsakh war that began in September 2020, the picture of the previously formed balance of forces in the South Caucasus has significantly changed. The influence of Turkey and Russia in regional processes has sharply increased, the role and political weight of Azerbaijan has significantly increased, and tangible risks for the security of the Republic of Artsakh and the Republic of Armenia have emerged. In the newly formed geopolitical situation from the point of view of the national interests of Armenia and Artsakh, it is necessary to clearly identify the existing trends in regional development and, on this basis, develop a realistic policy of security and national interests.
The main objectives of the international conference: to consider the South Caucasian policy of Turkey, the challenges and dangers of the potential implementation of Pan-Turkist plans in the South Caucasus, to indicate the foundations and reasons for the change in the balance of forces in this region, to assess the impact of this transformation on the post-war realities and to identify trends in regional development in the South Caucasus in the light of new geopolitical realities, which can become the basis for increasing the efficiency of assessment and adoption of state decisions aimed at ensuring the national security of the Republic of Armenia.
The study of the above issues is especially important in the context of the new geopolitical realities that have developed in the South Caucasus after the 44-day Artsakh war, considering the increased role and new ambitions of Turkey in the region.

The papers should cover (but not be limited to) the following topics:
• Political and geopolitical processes / transformations in the South Caucasus in the first two decades of the 21st century.
• Turkey's policy in the South Caucasus (1991-2021): Features, Challenges, and Prospects
• Pan-Turkism and Neo-Ottomanism: Ideology and Politics
• Turkey and Russia in the South Caucasus: Competition and Cooperation
• Trilateral cooperation Turkey-Georgia-Azerbaijan
• Artsakh war 2020 and Turkey's "new" regional policy.
The conference is open to a wide range of researchers.
