On September 9 of this year, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia hosted Flavius Caba-Maria, Director of the Institute for Political and Economic Issues of the Near East of Romania.
The meeting was attended by Gohar Iskandaryan, Acting Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, Levon Hovsepyan, Head of the Turkish Studies Department, and Eva Harutyunyan, Scientific Secretary.
Iskandaryan presented in detail the main research directions of the Institute of Oriental Studies, as well as the work conducted by the institute’s researchers on the Near East. She emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two centers. It was proposed to jointly organize webinars and conferences through the efforts of the staff of both centers, as well as to publish joint articles on Near Eastern issues in international academic journals.
Flavius Caba-Maria, for her part, presented the organization he leads and outlined the topics of interest to their researchers. According to him, interest in developments in the Caucasus has significantly increased in Romania recently, therefore, he also highlighted the importance of deepening cooperation.
During the meeting, developments in the region were discussed, including the significance of the North-South road for Armenia and Iran, as well as issues related to strengthening Armenia-Iran cooperation. The meeting also touched upon the relationships of the United States, the EU, Russia, and Iran with Armenia, and their possible developments.
