INSTITUTE OF ORIENTAL STUDIES OF NAS RA

The results of the monitoring conducted by Higher Education and Science Committee at the Institute of Oriental Studies of NAS RA have been published.

On September 17, 2024, Higher Education and Science Committee of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia conducted a monitoring review at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the NAS RA and issued an impartial expert opinion.

According to the review, the Institute of Oriental Studies has presented around eighty published articles, articles in the publication process, and those submitted for publication (listed in the Scopus or Web of Science databases). Six scientific events were organized, and the Institute’s researchers participated in 30 conferences, including eight held abroad. The Institute maintains cooperation with local and international academic centers. Over the past fifteen years, the Institute has strengthened collaboration with international diplomatic missions operating in Armenia.

As a conclusion, the experts noted: “With the available resources, the staff of the Institute of Oriental Studies has made significant contributions to scientific research concerning Armenia’s neighboring states, the Middle East, and international relations.” According to the expert opinion: “The Institute of Oriental Studies can unequivocally be regarded as one of the top three leading scientific institutions within NAS RA. Researchers publish in Scopus-indexed journals and carry out research projects funded by grant programs. However, there is a clear need for phased overall institutional development, establishment of new departments, and restructuring of existing ones.”

We express our gratitude to the independent experts of the Committee for Higher Education and Science for their positive evaluation of the Institute’s work and for providing a number of constructive recommendations regarding the Institute’s development. These recommendations will certainly be taken into account for the continuous advancement of the Institute of Oriental Studies of NAS RA.
