INSTITUTE OF ORIENTAL STUDIES OF NAS RA

The 2025 repoting period coincided with the broadening of the Institute of Oriental Studies’ international cooperation, a growth in scientific and educational initiatives, heightened activity in professional lectures.

During the reporting year, the Institute of Oriental Studies concluded ten cooperation agreements, five at the national level and five at the international level.

Cooperation with regional universities constitutes a new strategic direction adopted by the Institute of Oriental Studies, aimed at fostering the balanced development of scientific research in Armenia․ The international memorandums and agreements are intended to facilitate professional exchanges, joint research projects, conferences and workshops, and publishing collaborations. Throughout 2025, the Institute of Oriental Studies actively implemented courses, scholarly meetings, and extended academic events. Persian language instruction was provided free of charge.

Staff members of the Institute of Oriental Studies actively participated in international academic conferences abroad, including in China, Hungary, Russia, the United Kingdom, Georgia, France, Switzerland, Uzbekistan, Italy, Spain, and other countries.

During the reporting year, through the efforts of its staff, the Institute of Oriental Studies became the recipient of five grants under programs of the Science Committee and was selected to implement a joint project within the framework of a competitive program in cooperation with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Considerable efforts were also directed toward attracting young researchers, and in 2025 the Institute became a winner of the “ Interstate Humanitarian Cooperation Fund of CIS States” programs, which will allow it to hold an International Conference of Young Orientalists in 2026.

Overall, the Institute is currently implementing eleven grant-funded research programs, including the “Leading Researchers Support Program,” the “Remote Laboratory Establishment Program,” and the “Scientific Unit Strengthening Program.” The Institute of Oriental Studies also actively participates in COST Action programs.

During the reporting year, leading researchers of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, A. Kosyan and Y. Grekyan, were awarded the NAS RA Prize for 2025.

During 2025, the staff of the Institute of Oriental Studies published eight monographs and forty-six academic articles, including seventeen in internationally indexed journals. The Institute also organized international and national conferences and workshops.

During the reporting year, the Institute of Oriental Studies donated approximately 500 books to the state universities of Shirak, Gavar, Vanadzor, and Goris, to the Yerevan State University branch in Ijevan, to the “Kachar” Scientific Center, to the “Nairi” Armenian community in Yaroslavl Oblast, Russia, and to the Armenian Sunday School in Kostroma, Russia. Through daily efforts, a total of 1,087 titles were digitized in 2025 and are available in the Institute’s electronic library.

Renovation work was carried out at the Institute, and the necessary equipment was acquired. Throughout 2025, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the NAS RA actively conducted science popularization activities, presenting its work and achievements on the Institute’s official website and social media platforms.
