
On March 26, representatives of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences were hosted at the Institute of Oriental Studies of NAS RA members of BGA. The visit was organized within the framework of the joint project of the two academies “Armenian-Bulgarian Cultural Interactions in History and the Present” (NAS RA- BAS, 2026-2027).
The Armenian coordinator of the project is Academician of the NAS RA, Dr. Ruben Safrastyan, and the Bulgarian side is coordinated by Prof., Ph. D Roumiana Preshlenova, director of the Institute of Balkan Studies and Centre of Thracology. The project team members include researcher Ph. D Georgi Mirzabekyan and PhD student, Senior Assistant Sona Vardanyan from the Institute of Oriental Studies, and PhD, Senior Assistant Professor Alexandra Milanova and Assistant Professor Kaloyan Konstantinov from Bulgaria.
The aim of the project is to establish a framework for long-term cooperation between the scientific institutions of Armenia and Bulgaria. It aims to integrate the scholarly potential, methodological frameworks and professional expertise of both countries in order to eluciade the historical, social, and ideological foundations of cultural interactions.
During the meeting, ways for the further development of cooperation between the institutes were discussed, along with the historical and contemporary cultural interactions between Armenians and Bulgarians. Gohar Iskandaryan, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in terms of strengthening scientific cooperation.
Ruben Safrastyan noted that, within the framework of the project, the cooperation will not only contribute to the achieving of scientific results but will also promote the expansion of a sustainable scientific partnership between Armenia and Bulgaria and the deepening of intercultural understanding.
Roumiana Preshlenova highlighted the significance of the meeting, noting that it contributes to the strengthening of Armenian-Bulgarian scientific ties and provides a comprehensive understanding of historical and contemporary cultural interactions.
The project team members will continue their work on the project over the coming week.
