From July 1 to 3, 2025, director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the NAS RA, Gohar Iskandaryan, participated in the “Destruction, Loss, and Recovery in the Middle East” conference organized by the British Society for Middle Eastern Studies at Newcastle University, UK. The conference addressed the security challenges facing ethno-confessional minorities in the Middle East.

Iskandaryan delivered a presentation entitled "The Protracted War in the Middle East and The De-Christianization of the Region," in which she discussed the de-Christianization of the Middle East. She emphasized both external and internal factors contributing to the weakening position of Christian communities in the region, including Armenian communities.

The presentation also addressed the issue of ethnic cleansing and depopulation in Artsakh, examining it in parallel with challenges facing Christian communities across the Middle East.

The presentation received positive feedback from the conference organizers and participants, and it was proposed that the material be included in a scientific journal published by the British Society for Middle Eastern Studies.
