
On October 30, 2025, the Institute of Oriental Studies hosted the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Japan H.E. Monika Simonyan.
Gohar Iskandaryan, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, expressed gratitude for the visit and noted that the Institute pursues both the establishment of scientific cooperation with Japan and the development of scientific diplomacy. During the meeting, the prospects for expanding scientific cooperation between Armenia and Japan, as well as the mechanisms for their implementation, were discussed. G. Iskandaryan also presented the Institute's cooperation with the Japanese side to date, noting the close cooperation with the Embassy of Japan in Armenia.
Head of the International Relations Department Araks Pashayan, highlighted the difficulties that actually exist on the path of cooperation.
The Institute’s Scientific Secretary, Japanologist Eva Harutyunyan presented Ambassador Simonyan with several scientific works, including her monograph “Japan’s Policy in the Persian Gulf Region and the Gulf Cooperation Council /1981-2011/”, and also presented details about her research work and experience in Japan many years ago.
Ambassador Monica Simonyan highly appreciated the activities of the Institute of Oriental Studies, noting that the development of Armenian-Japanese scientific cooperation can be of great importance in terms of deepening bilateral relations, but emphasized that it is inextricably linked to the prospect of a comprehensive and comprehensive development of Armenian-Japanese relations. The Ambassador also touched upon the development of Armenia-Japan diplomatic and bilateral relations. Thoughts were exchanged on perceptions of Armenia in Japan and Japan in Armenia
