The Institute of Oriental Studies NAS RA in cooperation with All Armenian Foundation Financing Armenological Studies is going to organize international conference entitled “Armenian Communities of the Arab Countries of the Middle East: current trends and transformations”. The conference is going to be held in the end of October or at the beginning of November, 2023. The exact date of the conference will be announced later.
Since 2011, the transformation processes and regional order changes in various Arab countries have also caused instability and security-related problems, which had serious consequences for the Armenian communities in several Arab countries as well.
They greatly contributed to the emigration of Armenians from different Arab countries such are Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, etc. This reality had its negative consequences for the Armenian communities, community institutions (spiritual and secular), their activities, etc.
In the context of current regional transformations and realities, the discussion of the existence of Armenian communities, protection of material and spiritual values, identity issues and problems facing communities, in the framework of the international conference, has scientific, as well as political and practical relevance and significance.
The conference aims to discuss the features of the Armenian communities in the region in transition, the current issues and challenges within the platform of Science diplomacy, (under the umbrella of the Institute of Oriental Studies, NAS RA) with the participation of diplomatic and academic circles (Armenian and foreign).
The main points to be discussed are:
- Features of the development of Armenian communities in Arab countries: challenges and prospects
- The perspective of Armenian communities in Arab countries in the context of regional transformations
